From the Ground Up: Season One

From the Ground Up is a community access television program for Shaw TV highlighting activists and activism in Edmonton. Here is an archive of the program. Please note that the quality of some of the episodes below had to be lowered in order to have a file size suitable for uploading to YouTube. Also, there may be some differences between the online and broadcast versions of the show.

Season 1, Episode 26
From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 26. Season Finale. Youth activism on climate change. A protest concerning the promotion of a controversial police officer.

Season 1, Episode 25
From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 25. Edmonton’s Mexican community calls for the president of Mexico to resign in the wake of the disappearance of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa college. The Edmonton Coalition Against War and Racism picket against military action in Iraq and Syria. A rally against Bill C-43 demands that the government not stop social supports for refugee claimants.

From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 24. Students from across Alberta rally at the Legislature for post-secondary education to be a priority. A rally from the Edmonton Coalition on Housing and Homelessness calling for housing for all.

Season 1, Episode 23
From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 23. The Edmonton Coalition Against War and Racism (ECAWAR) protests the new war in Iraq on a national day of action. Anonymous Edmonton presents the Million Mask March. A small group of Mexican Edmontonians have a vigil for the missing students of Ayotzinapa. A public apology to Elder Gary Moostoos who was wrongly removed from City Centre Mall by security.

Season 1, Episode 22
From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 22. The Edmonton Coalition Against War and Racism continues to oppose Canada’s proposed military intervention in Iraq. Anonymous Edmonton explains the Global Frackdown. A march and rally for children who have died in foster care. Edmonton Marches Against Monsanto.

Season 1, Episode 21
From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 21. The Edmonton Coalition Against War and Racism (ECAWAR) opposes Canada’s military involvement in Iraq. Sisters in Spirit Stolen Sisters Awareness Walk honours missing and murdered Aboriginal women. The Whyte Draggin Sauciety, featuring Bill Bourne, performs an original song at World Peace Day.

Season 1, Episode 20
From the Ground Up: Activists and Activism in Edmonton. Season 1, Episode 20. Park(ing) Day activist art installation re-purposing parking spaces; UN International Day of Peace; Edmontonians march against climate change; a special musical performance by the Whyte Draggin Sauciety, featuring Bill Bourne.
